The easiest way to download and install Orchids is as a package.\u00a0 This page will tell you how to add the LSV mirror as a trusted mirror, and to fetch Orchids from it.<\/p>\n

This has the advantage that all updates will be handled by the software update manager.\u00a0 If you do not wish to do so, please consider installing Orchids manually<\/a> or from the source files<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The quick way<\/h3>\n

If you are not afraid of the command line, open a terminal, and type:<\/p>\n

wget -O - https:\/\/mirror.lsv.ens-paris-saclay.fr\/keys\/mirror.lsv.ens-paris-saclay.fr.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -\r\n<\/pre>\n
This will add a key that informs the APT package manager that it should trust the LSV mirror.<\/p>\n
Next, we shall tell APT where the LSV mirror is, and which OS and version you have:<\/p>\n
sudo echo \"deb https:\/\/mirror.lsv.ens-paris-saclay.fr\/<distrib> <version> lsv\" > \\\r\n \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/lsv.list<\/pre>\n
where <distrib><\/code> is your distribution (currently, debian<\/code> or ubuntu<\/code>) and version<\/code> is the version (currently, stretch<\/code>, for debian<\/code>, or xenial<\/code>, for ubuntu<\/code>).<\/p>\n
Finally, we update the APT cache:<\/p>\n
sudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n

The Web-based way<\/h3>\n
In your Web browser, click here<\/a>. You will be asked what to do with file mirror.lsv.ens-paris-saclay.fr.gpg.key<\/code>.\u00a0 (I’m going to explain how this works under Ubuntu.\u00a0 For other Linux distributions, you may have to do something slightly different.)<\/p>\n

Save it, anywhere you like: we shall erase it when we are done.\u00a0 By default, this is going to be saved in the ‘Downloads’ folder.<\/p>\n
Open System Settings.\u00a0 On Ubuntu, this is the cogwheel with the wrench at bottom left.<\/p>\n

Click on ‘Software & Updates’, then on the ‘Authentication’ tab.<\/p>\n

Now click on the ‘Import Key File…’ button, and select the folder where you have saved the key file.\u00a0 In the example, this is the ‘Downloads’ folder.<\/p>\n

Click ‘OK’.\u00a0 A new key was installed, and your computer now trusts the LSV mirror for updates.<\/p>\n

Now click on the ‘Other Software’ tab.\u00a0 We shall now tell your machine where the LSV mirror is located.<\/p>\n

Click the ‘Add…’ button, and enter ‘deb https:\/\/mirror.lsv.ens-paris-saclay.fr\/ubuntu xenial lsv<\/code>‘ into the dialog box.\u00a0 This informs the mirror that we are interested in Ubuntu distributions, and the version is xenial.\u00a0 Change that to debian<\/code> and stretch<\/code> for a Debian distribution, version stretch, for example.<\/p>\n

Click on the ‘Add Source’ button.\u00a0 Your machine now knows about the LSV mirror.<\/p>\n

Click on the ‘Close’ button.\u00a0 You should be warned that you should update information from the mirror.<\/p>\n

Fetching Orchids<\/h3>\n
Now that the LSV mirror is recognized, you should be able to download the latest Orchids package for your distribution.<\/p>\n
Either go to a terminal and type ‘sudo apt-get install orchids<\/code>‘:<\/p>\n
